Drug Contacts

No, it's not what you think. I swear. 

Researchers at Auburn University have come out with a new way to deliver eye medicine. In place of drops, a contact lens will deliver the dose to your eye. This will allow a more controlled and thorough dosing. 

The contacts can come in two varieties. A daily disposable contact lens or a thirty day extended wear lens. The medicine is released slowly controlled by a drug memory in the lens structure. 

Any color, any where

In middle school, I wanted to be an artist. I would draw all the time. I would come home from school with pictures on my jeans, hands, and notebooks. Sketchbooks littered my floor. My desk drawers were filled with pens, crayons, markers, and colorful pencils. It drove my mom crazy. She would tell me, "There are no jobs in art. You are too smart anyway. Be a doctor."

    It took two years, but my mom finally convinced me to give up on my dreams of becoming an artist. What she didn't destroy though was my love for pens, pencils, markers, and all things colorful. I can spend an hour looking at pens in Office Max. I spend even longer in a craft store because there are so many different pens. I know. I'm weird.

   This is called the Color Picker Pen and it was created by Jinsu Park. It's a pen that allows you to write in any color you want. All you have to do is scan the color you want with the color sensor. You can just hold the sensor up to an object you want to scan, push the button, and then write in that color. The pen mixes the right amounts of purple, blue, green and yellow to create the right color.  

  

This pen is only a concept at the moment, but just imagine it. Who needs a box of 120 crayons when you have a pen that can make any color? I would be the envy of ever Kindergardner in the world.

Goodbye Ink Cartridges

I wake up late after spending most of the night writing a paper for class. It's due in a few hours. I walk over to my computer and pull the file up. I hit print. Then I leave my room to get breakfast and get ready for class. After going through my boring morning routine, I pack up my books for class. Before leaving, I go to my printer to grab my paper to turn in. It's not there. I frown and walk back to my computer. I hit print. Once again I walk to my printer, only to find a red blinking light. No ink. It seems like every time I need to print something, I'm out of ink.

    This is the Pencil Printer. You can take old wooden pencils, feed them into the printer, and it will use the lead to print your document. There is also an eraser in the printer, so if you make a mistake you can feed the paper through and erase all the writing. Or say you are just done with whatever is on the paper, you can feed it through the printer, erase it, and use it again. 

I'm always one for saving some trees.

 

Germaphobe Friendly Keyboard

I have a few friends that are serious germaphobes. Let me say, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everyone has something they are scared of or don't like. I'm deathly afraid of thousand leggers. Anyway, when I showed this gadget to my friend, she practically squealed with joy. 

This keyboard from Viogaurd uses ultraviolet light to kill harmful micro-organisms in seconds. The keyboard looks and feels the same as any standard keyboard, but it sanitizes itself. The keyboard is stored inside a box and comes out with a wave of the hand and returns once a button is pressed. 

Apps Galore

Have you ever seen someone walk into a wall while texting? Or perhaps you've had someone run into you with their phone to their face as they updated their facebook status? Well, here's an app for those people, or for you if you are one of them.

For anyone who has an iPhone or some type of smartphone, you know that there are tons of apps that you can download. Well, a new app has been developed that makes it easier for those who like to text and walk at the same time. This app called the Transparent Screen projects an image of your path behind the regular functions of your phone. The app uses the camera to show the image of your route and obstacles in your path.

Heart Powered Pacemaker

A pacemaker powered by the heart. That sounds pretty cool, and a little too good to be true. For anyone who doesn't know what a pacemaker is, it's a little machine that helps keep the heart beating normally for those with heart murmurs or other heart problems. Pretty ideal, right? The problem with them is that they run on batteries, which means people need surgery to put them in, and then surgery again later when the batteries die.

Engineers have started to develop a pacemaker that doesn't run on batteries at all. It's powered by the heart. Right now it's only a prototype. But engineers at the University of Michigan have developed a material that flexes with the beats of the heart. It can produce enough energy to power the pacemaker. 

Massage

Two years ago, I suffered from severe muscle spasms in my back. They were mostly from the back problems I have, but these little things would have come in handy then. Instead, I had to use the machine from my doctors office, which didn't work very well. I would have loved to have these USB massagers for my back.

Tidy Cords

I have a drawer in my desk that is only used for electronic cords. It's a mess. Cords are everywhere. They are tangled, folded, and laced together. I don't even open it because it's so hard to find anything. Well, the Recoil Winder would help anyone with a bunch of messy gadget cords. 

The Recoil Winder automatically winds cables inside a colorful case. You just fold the cord in half and hook it into the device. It quickly winds the cord and makes life a whole lot easier. The Recoil Winder comes in three sizes and can handle cords up to 60 inches long.

Touchy Touchy

   There are touch iPods, touch phones, touch screens, so why aren't there touch keyboards? There are. Well, there will be. Currently keyboards are being created that you can just touch to work.

One Computer Addict Problem Solved

   I don’t know how your laptop or computer looks, but if it’s anything like mine then these might come in handy. I use all my USB ports, all of them. I have the typical four on my laptop, but one is used for my iPod/phone. One is used for my fan that keeps my laptop cool, since it gets way too hot, and the other two are used for my flash drives that are always plugged in because they keep all my files and TV shows. Well, there are times when I need to plug in other electronics like my nook or my camera and I have no where to plug in the USB. This little invention will definitely solve that.

   As you can see, these are USB connections that plug into one another. Not only are they in cute colors, but they are absolutely brilliant. They allow you to plug in anything you need to whenever you need to.

The Future is Now

   I wish I could be telling you that I just bought my first flying car, and I’m about to take it out for a test run. Unfortunately, we aren't that advanced yet. But, until then, Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co. Ltd has created a new transport system for crowded cities to make a morning commute a little less painful.

   This is a Straddling Bus. It is almost like a subway but it’s above ground and it straddles the road. Passengers board on the upper level while cars drive under it. This bus was created for crowded cities in China where the streets are over crowded and building subways is time consuming and expensive. This bus will be powered by solar energy and electricity, which will make it a whole lot more green then buses used now. It will be able to carry 1200-1400 passengers at one time, and will cost only about 10% of what building a subway would cost.
 
   Pretty cool, huh? Would you ride on this bus? Better yet, will we see them here soon?

Not your typical mouse

It’s amazing how people adapt to life. I have a cousin who has lost both of his legs from diabetes, yet he can still walk thanks to prosthetic legs. That’s what we do as humans, adapt. We figure out a way to make our lives better and we do it.

This mouse, isn't your normal everyday mouse. It’s a mouse for your feet. This mouse was created by Liu Yi. It was created for people who have lost the use of their arms. Instead of using their hands, they can move the mouse with their foot and click with their toes.
